Frankincense (Pure) 50ml

This Pure Frankincense Essential Oil is steam distilled from the resin of the Boswellia carterii tree, part of the Burseraceae family, and is also known as Olibanum. The name originates from the French word “franc,” meaning luxuriant, and it was, alongside myrrh, one of the first gums to be used as incense. Indigenous to the Middle East, this tree often grows in a natural bonsai formation in the arid landscape, symbolising divinity.

Renowned for its calming properties, Frankincense is one of the most sought-after oils in aromatherapy. It is believed to aid in the healing of wounds and prevention of scars. Additionally, this luxurious oil is often included in cosmetics for its ability to tone the face, diminish wrinkles, and help avoid stretch marks. Frankincense essential oil is also thought to ease anxiety, stress, asthma, bronchitis, laryngitis, and persistent coughs. It serves as a general tonic for the uterus, providing a calming effect during labour and helping to alleviate heavy menstruation. This oil is particularly beneficial during meditation.

Frankincense has a rich history, used by ancient Egyptians as holy incense and in face masks. The burnt resin was ground into a powder known as kohl, which was used to accentuate the eyes—this kohl-lined look is frequently depicted in Egyptian art. The earliest recorded use of frankincense can be traced back to a tomb inscription of the 15th century BC Egyptian queen Hatshepsut, where it was employed for fumigating the sick and banishing evil spirits.
