Frankincense (Dilute) 50ml

This Frankincense Essential Oil is steam distilled from the resin of the Boswellia carterii tree, belonging to the Burseraceae family, and is also known as Olibanum. The term originates from the French word “franc,” meaning luxuriant, and, alongside myrrh, was one of the first gums to be used as incense. This remarkable tree is native to the Middle East, thriving in its arid landscape, often taking on a natural bonsai formation. Frankincense is revered as a symbol of divinity.

This oil is a favourite in aromatherapy, celebrated for its calming properties. It is said to assist in healing wounds and preventing scars. Additionally, it is utilised to tone the skin, reduce wrinkles, and help avoid stretch marks in cosmetic applications. Frankincense essential oil has a long history of use for alleviating anxiety, stress, asthma, bronchitis, laryngitis, and persistent coughs. It acts as a general tonic for the uterus, providing a soothing effect during labour and helping to ease heavy menstruation. This oil is particularly beneficial during meditation.

Historically, the Ancient Egyptians burned frankincense as sacred incense and applied it in face masks. They ground the burnt resin into a powder known as kohl, which was used to accentuate the eyes. The iconic kohl-lined eyes are frequently depicted in Egyptian art. The earliest record of frankincense’s use dates back to a tomb inscription of the 15th century BC, belonging to Egyptian queen Hatshepsut. It was also employed to fumigate the sick and to dispel evil spirits.
