In ancient times, the leaves of the tea tree were infused to create a soothing tea, which inspired its name. Tea Tree Essential Oil is a concentrated liquid extracted through steam distillation from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia, a tree native to the northeast coast of New South Wales, Australia. This oil is renowned for its valuable antiseptic and anti-fungal properties, thanks to its natural constituents known as terpenoids, making it a staple in numerous personal care products and remedies today.

Tea Tree Oil is beneficial for:

  • Relieving congestion, cold, cough, and flu
  • Healing acne, fungal infections, and dandruff
  • Treating vaginal infections, haemorrhoids, and athlete’s foot
  • Soothing aching muscles and joint injuries

When added to bath water, it effectively helps control bacteria. Please note that Tea Tree Oil is intended for external use only and should not be ingested. It is typically used on adults and must be kept away from children and pets. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy or lactation.

The medicinal properties of the tea tree have been acknowledged for centuries, particularly by the Australian aborigines, who utilised crushed leaves to heal cuts, burns, sores, and infections. They inhaled the oils from these leaves to ease coughs and colds, sprinkled the oil on wounds, and applied poultices. Infusions were made from the leaves to soothe sore throats. Between 1920 and 1930, the essential oil began to gain recognition in Europe for its antimicrobial properties.
